CHALLENGE YOURSELF on the lush, emerald fairways and bent-grass greens of The General, our Jim Fazio-designed championship golf course. Ranked #13 in the state by Golf Digest, this par 72 layout plays to 7,350 yards from the back tees, and is a true test for golfers of any skill level. The course blends into the surrounding landscape, providing beautiful vistas of the mountains and the estate. If you’re going to take on The General, take plenty of ammunition. And there’s no better place to stock up than our Woodlands Clubhouse. The Clubhouse Golf Shop is fully equipped with the finest clubs, accessories, and apparel, and is also home to our golf professionals, who are always there to help guests make the most of their game.

World-class dining options abound at Barnsley Gardens. The Rice House puts an epicurean spin on classic Southern cuisine. The main dining room surrounds the original 1854 stone fireplace, while a glass-enclosed sun porch overlooks the Historic Ruins and Gardens. The Woodlands Grill is a true steakhouse that serves only the finest prime beef and fresh fish amidst spectacular views of our golf course and surrounding hills. The Grill has the feel of an English hunting lodge, with an inviting bar providing beer, wine, spirits, and premium cigars. Our Beer Garden is open seasonally, and serves German beer, sausages, pretzels, and other fare in a casual atmosphere. An open fire pit keeps diners warm at night and makes a great place to toast s’mores. Delicious and romantic picnic lunches are also available, allowing guests to dine at their leisure on the beautiful grounds.

 |
COME OUT AND PLAY, Barnsley Gardens has a myriad of outdoor activities from which guests may choose. Make tracks to our Orvis center and take a shot at the sporting clay course. The course is overseen by the prestigious British School of Shooting, and lessons and instruction by an Orvis endorsed instructor are available.
For anglers, we offer fly and spin fishing. Let our Orvis instructors guide you to the best fishing holes on the Lower Pond, or on our 10-acre lake. The more adventurous may choose to take a guide along for a daylong fishing excursion on a local river.
Explore the estate’s grounds by guided horseback or by mountain bike. Take on a challenging game of paint ball, or take a leisurely paddle by canoe or kayak. |
